Recently, a top US general, namely the head of the U.S. military’s Central Command, General Joseph Votel, addressed a press conference stating that the US withdrawal from Syria paves way for the rise of extremists. The Islamic State which was subdued and thwarted by the US militia will now once again resurface thanks to the US troops withdrawing from Syria. In fact, it’s only a matter of time before the Islamic militant groups, fighters, and followers gather more resources and plan a menacing comeback that will leave behind terror and trauma all across the world.
This statement by Votel is an eye-opener to the globe about the increased threat of insurgency by the Islamic State. Votel who supervises troops in the Middle East and Afghanistan further stated that the troops need to be vigilant of the activities of the Islamic group to prevent a full-fledged comeback by these extremists. As countermeasures, before the complete removal of the US troops from Syria, the 52 square km Islamic Territories need to be re-captured by the US militia in a controlled and effective manner.
Now, as per Votel’s dialogues, Trump had suddenly taken this decision as per his America First Policy, but this wasn’t a very wise one. He was not consulted along with Jim Mattis, who was the defense secretary of the States. Mattis infuriated with this choice had abruptly resigned leaving the US in a position of compromise.
Now, Trump himself faced several oppositions from his own Republican Party owing to his impulsive and rash decision making. His Republican members had further, largely opposed his plans for an abrupt withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan and Syria. They asserted that such rash decisions will now pave way for the destabilization of the region and this vacuum will lead to invasion by Iran and Russia.
Anyhow, currently the military has already begun the process of the US troop’s withdrawal, and the global countries are tense. If not vigilant the chances of terrorist resurgence are aplenty.
