‘We Can Disciple Iran Without Starting A War’

The White House might feel it has a well-thought-out strategy at work when it comes to tackling Iran. But it hasn’t. Trump’s strategy started with putting economic pressure of Tehran where it continued to sanction the country. It was later to be met by a severe threat of deterrence as well. But this has not got the bull by its horns.

Washington has been putting pressure on Tehran by constantly sending off messages of deterrence at every instance. Whether it was about sanctioning and issuing a warrant against those aboard the Adrian Darya-1, or by threatening action against any nation that allowed the supertanker to dock. This was to ensure, Iran could not engage in any kind of sale of the oil, which is one of its main resource for economic trade.

It has now put even more pressure by shifting the focus of the Kingdom and the world at Iran for the recent attacks on the Saudi Arabian oil reserve facilities. But Trump wants to hurt Iran without going on war. Political analysts have observed how most of Trump’s tweets have never made military assertions but roundabout statements of retaliation.

Josh Rogin, a political analyst suggests how ‘we could disciple the notorious nation without starting a war.’ He suggests that Trump should once shift his focus to Syria if he wanted to hurt Iran at all. Syria is where Iran’s military and its proxies are committing war crimes and where Iran’s regional aggression needs to be stopped anyway.

However, it is also being seen that Iran isn’t getting deterred by America’s sanctions but is in fact, resorting to violent tactics. Its main scene of crime remains Syria, where it is supporting its own terror outfit as well as Hezbollah militia, while it goes against US sanctions and delivers oil. Political analysts believe that is it imperative to stop the growth and strength Iran is gaining in Syria. Rogin suggests “using limited U.S. military force against IRGC targets in Syria. Through this, Trump can take Iran to the task and help Syria at the same time, advancing both the strategic and moral interests of the United States and our allies.”
