The UAE showed confidence for the success of the meeting of Yemeni government officials and the Southern Transition Council in Jeddah last evening that was called for by Abu Dhabi in collaboration with Riyadh said Dr.Anwar Gargash, Minister of state for foreign affairs.
UAE along with Saudi Arabia had extended an invitation to both sides in order to hold restoration talks in Jeddah so that they could stand United to counter Houthi militants.
This invitation was extended following a fight in Aden that erupted between pro-government militias and the ones supporting the STC.
Dr.Gargash took to Twitter to express confidence towards a positive outcome of the meeting, he said, “We are confident and optimistic for the success of the meeting among our brother like government of Yemen and the STC being held in Jeddah, it will strengthen our attempts to stand United in order to counter Houthis which remains the priority.”
The Arab coalition is Saudi-led along with UAE which has constantly been fighting in Yemen in the interest of the globally recognized government since 2015 following the capture of capital Sanaa in 2014 by the Houthis.
Dr.Gargash added, “We are thankful to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for politically and militarily leading the coalition.”
The meeting was scheduled for last evening but it is believed that peace talks are not that easy to be held until certain withdrawals are agreed upon.
The UAE has time and again clarified that it depends on the Citizens of Yemen to sort the rift and international community must act responsibly leaving no possible attempt to support a peaceful solution and UAE reaffirmed its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s call for dialogue to be held between both parties in Jeddah.
Dr.Gargashhad extended a call for dialogue earlier but it continued to be delayed due to frequent conflicts arising in Aden and many other southern cities. Both Saudi Arabia and UAE still stand firm that peace talks are the only solution to bring an end to Yemen’s crisis.
