Post a US military raid in Northern Syria, which led to the elimination of the founder of the Islamic State founder, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the pentagon has confirmed that there is valuable intelligence unearth which lead to further activities of the group.
This is declared via an official statement made by Defense Secretary Mark Esper, left, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley at a joint press conference.
The ‘intel’ consists of data-storage devices and other files that will add to the understanding of Islamic State, its motives and future course of action.
It is strange that despite the US have announced its withdrawal from Northern Syria, there was a full-fledged raid done by the American troops.
Apparently, the Kurdish forces had already announced capture and kill strategy for Baghdadi before the US withdrew forces from Syria.
It is now coming to light that America went ahead and attacked to eliminate the ISIS founder, only after it had retrieved compelling evidence of Baghdadi’s whereabouts in Northern Syria itself.
According to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), they claim that it was their spy that stole Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s underwear to ascertain his DNA, which when tested proved a secure match and was used to prove his identity before he was killed by US-led forces.
Senior SDF commander Polat Can now claim that America has downplayed their contribution, used their source that played a vital role in tracking down the Islamic State (IS) leader’s location before carrying out an operation on their own through special forces in Syria.
It can have further commented taking to twitter that “All intelligence and access to al-Baghdadi as well as the identification of his place were the results of our own work.
Our intelligence source was involved in sending coordinates, directing the airdrop, participating in and making the operation a success until the last minute.”
It is no surprise then that several US allies or powers in the region were already well informed about a possible raid.
This included Turkey, Iraq, Kurdish forces in north-eastern Syria, and Russia, which controls the airspace over Idlib. Surprisingly, ISIS had no prior information about this attack.
This shows that the militia really works in isolation without any solid connectors with other government bodies.
Political analysts believe that this elimination may only dampen the spirits of ISIS for the time being, but may not mean the end of their idea of a Mosul caliphate, a thought which was germinated by Baghdadi since 2015.
