Sources Say, 100 Nigerian Soldiers Killed By Militants in an Attack on Army Base

Near about 100 Nigerian soldiers were killed by militants in an attack on an army base, said the security sources and they also blamed the Islamic State West Africa. The toll which has been declared is considered to be the highest since Muhammadu Buhari, the President came to power in the year 2015 and it could have raised pressure on him which is ahead of an election to be held in February, not least because he has claimed victory over the insurgency more than nine years.
The insurgents attacked the base in the village of Metele in northeastern Borno State which is also considered as the epicenter of a revolt by Boko Haram and its Islamic State Splinter group. An officer who made request for anonymity said that the insurgents took us unawares and the base was also burned with the arms. He also said that they had lost about 100 soldiers. It is definitely a huge loss. According to the sources, most of the troops are missing. One of the soldiers also said that more troops were killed when an attempt was made for recovering the bodies from the initial attack was ambushed. Even, they said that they had left their amour, tanks, and weapons. They all flew because we did not know from where the bullets were coming in. Some of the soldiers were killed by the insurgents while evacuating the bodies of the killed soldiers.
The senate, controlled by the opposition people’s Democratic Party, suspended the session in honor of what it said were 44 dead soldiers after the Metele attack. In the recent month, militants have killed more than hundreds of soldiers in that region in the recent months.
