Qatar has found itself in a precarious situation when its American docking airbase seemed to have been used to fire the attacking missile to assassinate Iranian warlord Qassem Soleimani.

As the attack happened, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani immediately flew to Tehran for talks with President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Qatar has always made it clear that it would never side with anyone to go against Iran. But with Qatar hosting one of America’s most vital overseas air command base, the sprawling al-Udeid Air Base, its American friendship could have taken precedence over its relations with Iran.

Qatar has been under an economic blockade from all its Arab neighbors due to Doha’s increasing allegiance with the Muslim Brotherhood and activities of illicitly funding terrorist factions worldwide. Furthermore, its growing friendship and dedication to Iran have also been seen as a sign of unrest in the middle east. America has had to tolerate the tiny wealthy Arab nation, for the simple reason that Qatar is a strategic point of contact for the US in the Middle East.

The al-Udeid Airbase has seen a huge investment, both from Washington and Doha together. Indeed, the American military is dependent on Qatar. With the al-Udeid, the U.S. has a sound listening post on Iran. It does not need to relocate Centcom’s forward operating headquarters, and can easily wage a military campaign in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.

According to British Media, the Hellfire R9X Ninja missiles were launched by the MQ-9 Reaper drone that was sent off from Al-Udeid military and airbase in Qatar. American has been put under pressure from all quarters to shift its base from Qatar. The pressure has essentially come from its middle eastern allies who would like to alienate Qatar for obvious reasons.

But Washington continues to hold its own reasons to carry out a seemingly loving relationship with Qatar, despite all its terror funding tactics and allegiance to Iran in particular.

Whether or not it would be pulled up by Tehran for being instrumental in the killing of one of their key masterminds behind all their proxy war crime, is something only time will tell.
