Pentagon on Monday declared that the US is not responsible for the recent attacks against ease of ammunition storage facilitating channels in Iraq. The government office released a statement stressing that Iraq, “ has the sovereignty of authority over its own internal security and protection of their democracy,” and further pledged cooperation from their side in any investigation.
The spokesperson of Pentagon, Jonathan Hoffman also denied claims by saying, “ Statements to the contrary are not only untrue but also deceptive and provocative. We stand with Iraq’s autonomy and have at various occasions stood against any external actions that inflame violence in Iraq.”
He further said, “ Iraq’s government holds the right to be authoritative in their own internal security and are probing the recent attacks correspondingly.”
We support Iraqi sovereignty and have repeatedly spoken out against any potential actions by external actors inciting violence in Iraq,” he added. “The government of Iraq has the right to control their own internal security and protect its democracy. They are investigating the recent attacks accordingly.”
According to the claims by the American officials, Israel has been engaging in airstrikes in opposition to Iran’s targets in Iraq. A senior official also raised concerns about Israel crossing the limits and the operations that it’s carrying out may result in US withdrawal of troops from the country.
As per the US officials, various raids were carried out by Israel that targeted military in Iraq in connection with Iran, which also includes the July 19 attack that struck a base used by Iranian Revolutionary Guards to transport weapons to Syria.
Moreover, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while speaking during an interview with Israel’s Channel 9, did not completely disagree or deny the possibility of Israel’s potential operations against Iran’s targets in Iraq on as and when needed basis.
