Kingdom Signs ‘Riyadh Agreement’ For Political Settlement In Yemen

Addressing the Shoura Council meeting, the Saudi Arabian King Salman has expressed his hopes of now the recently signed agreement with Yemeni people might bring peace to the nation.

The legitimate government in Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) recently signed the “Riyadh Agreement” under the auspices of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who officially announced the deal.

Saudi Arabia is looking at broader peace talks from here on along with a political settlement.  Saudi Arabia and its allies have been on war with Iran backed Houthis militia since 2015, after the illegal capture of the capital of Sanna in Yemen.

Since then, Houthis have received immense military and equipment support from Iran, Qatar, and Russia that have tried to attack Saudi facilities.

The recent attack on its strategic oil reserves was a failed effort to destabilize the Kingdom’s economy.

Speaking over Iran’s attitude to constantly interfere in the solidarity of other nations, King Salman has urged Iran to abandon an expansionist ideology that has “harmed” its own people, following violent street protests in the Islamic republic.

Iran is now facing mutiny in its own land, where civilians are revolting against raised oil prices, something the rich nation isn’t used to.

The heavy sanctions by the United States have affected their economy in a bad way.  Also, Iran’s interference in Iraq’s governance has now come to surface and is being heavily criticized by the general population.

Under the Riyadh Agreement, Yemen will get to go back to its legitimate government within seven days.

It will also see the unification of all military formations under the authority of the Ministries of Interior and Defense, and the formation of an efficient government made up equally between the north and south of Yemen.

The agreement has been officially signed in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, with the attendance of the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Yemeni President Abdrabbu Mansour, President of the STC Aidarus al-Zoubaidi, alongside other Arab and Western officials and ambassadors on November 05 this year.
