As Japanese hostage returns home from Syrian ‘hell’ he gets rice balls

The 44-year old Japanese journalist returned home to rice balls which were cooked by his mother after an uncertain future of more than three years where he was captured by militants in Syria and was subjected to physical and mental “hell”.  He had quit his job as reporter on a Japanese newspaper for covering the Iraq war in 2003.
