Iran has been able to used chaos and unrest in Iraq as a perfect cover. It is known to be stocking arsenal of short-range missiles in the land to forward its own power play and agenda at large.
According to American intelligence and officials, Tehran has been meddling with Iraqi governance from the beginning, with the mind to use it as the perfect base to send waves of intimidation in the Middle East and secure its power equation with its counterparts.
Strangely, Trump administration has not been able to deter Iran from stockpiling outside its territories. The Iraq point gives Iran a strategic placement in case its enemies do decide to strike the country. American intelligence has confirmed that Iran has made use of Iraqi Shiite militias to move its arsenal. They have a loyalty advantage, having long supplied and controlled them.
Confirmed media reports state that many of the Iranian-backed militias have strategically taken control of a number of roads, bridges, and transportation infrastructure in Iraq. This has made Tehran’s work easy, giving it a mobility edge to move its arsenal around the city.
American officials had warned against the pileup in 2018 itself. Israel attacked the piles through airstrikes but the elimination was not successful and then the issue has gone in the background, as America is busy sanctioning Iran, without realizing the money power Iran still enjoys, thanks to its corrupt governance that has eaten into the livelihood of its civilian population.
Iran was held responsible for several airstrikes in the Middle East. Tehran (obviously) denied the allegations. While Trump refrained from responding back in a military way, his threat of electronic attack has not had too much impact on Iran either.
It seems Tehran can see through Trump’s shallowness to really handle the issue at hand and knows how to move things in its favor, without rustling too many feathers and getting noticed.
