Incursion Threat Has Won Erdogan Retraction Of Kurdish Forces

Turkish President Recap Tayyip Erdogan has agreed to a five-day retreat from the Syrian region, on an American assurance that the Kurdish forces retreat and clear the ‘safe zone’.

While President Donald Trump is applauding at the temporary win and claiming it as “an amazing outcome”, a lot of background mayhem is to be credited to this momentary ceasefire, which is actually looking like Turkey’s win after all.

American Vice President Mike Pence made a public statement saying that “The United States and Turkey have agreed to a cease-fire in Syria. Turkey will halt military operations for 120 hours.”

But this comes with the promise that Kurdish forces withdraw from the “safe zone. “Once that withdrawal is complete, the cease-fire will become permanent, he had added, an action which has worked well in Turkey’s favor.

It is not just Putin who is a smart strategist but Erdogan has a card or two up his sleeve as well.

The Turkish President has had long term plans to seize control over the Northern part of Syria; and this is not just with the public intent of settling in more than 2 million Syrian refugees in the area, which is been a point of the battle between Kurdish led forces, Russian backed Assad militia and the Turkish army.

The seizure of this area as a 30km safe zone also runs the risks of letting lose ISIS captured terrorists that have been held together by Kurdish soldiers, trained by the American forces.

Erdogan is more interested to hold the post in the Northern Syrian region due to its proximity to the Euphrates and Tigris River, regions that connect with Iraq’s oil-rich reserves.

World oil estimates show that Iraq holds the world’s three of the top 10 fields of the future.

Iraq oil companies are not well developed. There is a potential of business growth there and avenues for it to be the future hotbed for oil supply, something Turkey would want to put its hands into.

Russia and Iran are already playing their side of the game to eye the oil pie. But America has decided to shifts its friendly focus to Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil supplier at the moment.

This could be one reason why Trump would want to retract American troops from the thick of things in Syria.

This action left him standing alone in the Cabinet Room defending his stance, while the House of Congress lashed at him for having gone against a majority vote against the retraction.

Trump is more interested in the oil trade while the House will have fair governance on its priority.

In the midst of the retraction, Russia has played its part and asked the Kurdish forces to call it a truce with the Assad led forces, for its own safekeeping.

The Kurdish forces have felt let down with the sudden change of events, where America left them to fend for themselves; in a turf war, they were fighting for ethnic reasons.
