It is now coming to light that possibly Qatar had a role to play in orchestrating the September 11, terror attacks that rocked the United States.
A UAE based media outlet has released a documentary that states how Qatar had actually sheltered the mastermind behind the September 11 terror attacks. It focuses on 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad’s visit to Qatar in 1996 as well as “Qatar’s long-term support for him, including protection and financial assistance, to achieve his terrorist goals and plans,” as it picks its sources from a detailed report done by the Gulf News itself.
Apparently, it was also confirmed that Mohammad was actually working in a plush salary and package at the Water Department of Qatar itself. Unfortunately, then American officials could not nab Mohammed as they could not trust Qatar would agree to its involvement in the ploy and hand him over.
Qatar has been pulled into the controversy of funding terrorism for many years now, but no clear evidence has ever been able to prove the rich country’s involvement.
But with surety on their end, through their own gathered intelligence, the governments of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Egypt had long decided to cut diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar. As a consequence, they also shut their airspace and territorial waters, trying to pressure the Doha government to stop funding extremist groups and individuals who endorse terrorism. They obviously wanted Qatar to live up to its international obligations and treaties to stop supporting extremism.
But that never happened and Qatar has been constantly funding terrorism in one way or the other. As it turns out, Mohammad was tipped off, hid in Doha and slipped out of the Gulf state just hours after the US ambassador told the Qatari Emir of the wanted terrorist in their midst.
