Historic Sites in Turkish Capital to be Destroyed Then Reconstructed

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey, has stated that a few of the historic sites on the famed peninsula of Istanbul are going to be destroyed. They will then be reconstructed by a Qatari-Turkish firm.

He also mentioned that the area that surrounds the iconic Süleymaniye Mosque will also undergo demolition. This drew a lot of criticism since the Süleymaniye Mosque is an historic building that dates back to the Ottoman era and is considered to be one of the landmarks of Istanbul.

Erdogan stated that all the historic buildings will be destroyed with the help of a Qataro-Turkish company. They will then be reconstructed based on the originals. He also stated that the area will become a major attraction after the reconstruction takes place.

Be that as it may, social media users were wondering why such a historic site has to be demolished and then rebuilt. People are also critical about the cooperation with the Qatari company since it lacks any expertise whatsoever in historic renovation projects.
