Jason Greenblatt, the US special envoy for the Middle East, plans to resign once the US peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians that he has been assigned to work on, authorities said on Thursday. 

Greenblatt, who had planned to work for two years for the White House in 2017, is anxious to return to his family in New Jersey, the authorities said. 

Greenblatt and White House senior counsel Jared Kushner, and the US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, have driven the push to develop a peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians as well as spent the whole Trump administration dealing with the project. 

President Trump stated that this was the deal of the century, the Republican president’s policy to illuminate one of the world’s most intractable problems has drawn profound skepticism from Palestinians. The Arab News reported.

Trump called Greenblatt “a great devoted friend and legal advisor” and stated that Greenblatt would leave to seek after work in the private sector. “His commitment to Israel and working towards the peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians,” Trump stated on his Twitter post. 

Currently, the White House has outlined a $50 billion redevelopment plan for the Palestinians and neighboring nations. They are yet to release the proposal for solving political matters like the status of Jerusalem. 

According to international media reports, the US authorities stated that the political plan is complete and it will release soon. 

It’s unclear whether the peace plan will release following the elections or until administering alliance shapes, a procedure that could take weeks. According to Arab News reports.

The Palestinian Authority had boycotted the US peace attempt since late 2017 when Trump chose to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reversing many years of US policy. 

Greenblatt will hand over a lot of his Middle East responsibilities to Kushner associate Avi Berkowitz. Brian Hook, the pioneer of the State Department’s Iran team, will take up an expanded role, a senior administrative authority stated. As per Arab News.

Greenblatt, a former attorney for President Trump, said he was thankful to have been a part of the group to draft “a dream for a peace deal.” 

“This vision can immeasurably improve the lives of a large number of Israelis, Palestinians, and others in the district,” he stated in a media announcement. 

Greenblatt has been a player in the majority of Trump’s moves planned for reinforcing support for Israel, for example, the US acknowledgment of both Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Developing a peace plan, which Greenblatt and others have kept confidential, is seen suspiciously among numerous in the Arab world because it is foreseen to be pro-Israeli. 

Kushner, in an announcement, stated that Greenblatt “has made an enormous effort in driving the endeavors to build up a financial and political vision for a long-sought peace in the Middle East.” 

His works have helped in building up the relationship between Israel and its neighbors. He is trusted and regarded by the majority of the leaders and is regarded as a true friend and will keep on having a constructive impact on the world,” Kushner stated. The Arab News reported.
