Golden Globe Awards Used to Call for a Change

It was clear that this year’s Golden Globes award would be different from the previous award shows. The actors and actresses decided on wearing black colored attire. The award shows are often used by the Hollywood celebrities to call for a change. The Golden Globes Award of 2018 was used to initiate the nation-wide protest against Harvey Weinstein and other notable Hollywood personalities whose names have been associated with sexual harassment and abuse. Since October, thousands of men and women associated with the entertainment industry have raised their voices against sexual harassment.

Message of the Show

The Golden Globes Award Show was used to reach out to the masses so that they report the sexual violence to which they have been subjected. The black color code was selected for the award show as a protest against the sexual harassment and assault. Monica Ramirez, the board director of Alianza Nacional de Campesinas claims that they are in solidarity with the women who are facing sexual violence in their workplace.

Opinions of the Activists

Laura Dern requested the audience to raise their voice against sexual harassment and to support the struggle of the survivors. She asked the audience to employ and protect the women who have voiced the sexual assault, they have faced. Oprah Winfrey stated that it is time to protest against sexual violence because keeping mum will make the assaulters more powerful.

In order to make a real change, the entertainment industry will have to do a lot more than voicing the stories of sexual violence faced by the women in their work place. The survivors who belong to the industry and to the outside will need both financial and legal help. The tone of the future award shows was set up on Saturday night and the demand for a change has reached out to the masses.

Awards Won at the Event

The 75th Golden Globes Awards celebrated the best of the film and television industry. Oprah Winfrey was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri was awarded the best motion picture award, in the drama genre. The best motion picture, musical or comedy had been awarded to Lady Bird. The best actress award was won by Frances McDormand for Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. Gary Oldman bagged the award for the best actor in a motion picture, drama for Darkest Hour. The best director award was presented to Guillermo Del Toro for The Shape of Water.

The tone of the future award shows was set up on Saturday night and the demand for a change has reached out to the masses.
