Doha Bank’s Terror Funding Involvement Confirmed in London Branch

A well known London based law firm Richard Slade and Company have issued a claim at the High Court recently saying that a Qatari bank has allegedly channeled large sums of money to a terrorist group in Syria, a spokesperson for the legal case has confirmed this to the media.

It has been brought out in the open that two wealthy Qatari-Syrian brothers Moutaz and Ramez al-Khayyat, who are respectively chairman and chief executive of the Doha-based UrbaCon Trading & Contracting Company (UCC) had financed and could have assisted in financing al-Nusra Front through their accounts at Doha Bank during the Syrian civil war.

The law firm says, it is ‘very confident’ about the claim. The firm is representing eight Syrian nationals who have asked for the claim to be lodged against Doha Bank in the High Court.

It seems that substantially large financial transactions were made through Doha Bank into accounts in Turkey and Lebanon. Here, this money was withdrawn and then carried out over the border to Syria where it was used to fund Al-Nusra Front. The latter is known formerly as Al Qaeda’s official Syrian affiliate.

Richard Whiting is Doha Bank’s chief London representative. He spoke to a prominent British media agency and said, that the “Doha Bank Limited is taking legal advice and has denied the allegations and alleged involvement.”

It is worth noting that Qatar Investment Authority, the Gulf state’s sovereign wealth fund, is Doha Bank’s largest shareholder and that the bank’s chairman and several directors are members of the Emirate’s ruling al-Thani family.

This development comes soon after a British newspaper revealed that British-based and Qatari-owned Al Rayan Bank was also providing financial services to several British organisations linked to promoting Islamist causes, including a charity that is a designated terrorist entity in the United States.

Investigative reporting exposed Qatar’s hidden agenda of backing Islamists worldwide to spread their ‘extremist’ ideology through financing their charities. Although Qatar has repeatedly denied backing or funding terror groups, news around the world is now tricking in to confirm its role in terror funding.
