Denmark Makes It Illegal for Mosques to Be Foreign Funded

The government of Denmark has launched, with Danish People’s Party, a right wing political party, a new proposal for a law. This law can make it illegal for religious institutions and communities in Denmark to receive money from foreign authorities and governments.

This law is going to be implemented if it has been assessed that the donations are posing a security threat to Denmark and that it undermines the democracy and fundamental freedoms of the nation. This ban will be covering equipment donation, loans, financial aid to the staff members and gifts. Even the rental of premises will fall under this law’s purview.

One of the primary reasons for this ban is said to be the extensive support given to mosques from nations such as Turkey and Qatar.

Previously, Turkey and Qatar have donated considerable sums of money to mosques as well as religious bodies.
