Belgium has apologized for the abduction of thousands of children from Congo who were mixed in race between the years 1959 and 1962. The apology was made in a move to address the legacy of the brutal 80 years of colonization in Africa. This apology is the first time that Belgium has acknowledged officially taking responsibility pertaining to the policy of segregation. Under this policy, the metis children were abducted from Congo and were later put inside schools and orphanages located in Belgium that were run by the Catholic Churches.
