Recently Amnesty International reported that Maduro’s men had tortured and killed numerous Venezuela citizens who went against him. As per human rights group at Amnesty, the people were influenced by Juan Guaido’s demand to change the Venezuela government as Maduro was elected a second time. As per Guaido’s claim, Maduro had come to power using unsavory means and hence last month Guaido requested a change in the constitution that provoked thousands of citizens to protest.
This resulted in Maduro’s men undertaking a campaign to thwart and teach a lesson to protestors. These people were attacked using Venezuelan security forces that without proof detained hundreds of citizens and even killed numerous.
The protests as were noted by the Amnesty in a report, Hunger, punishment and fear, the formula for repression in Venezuela, claimed that the security arrested 900 people. Additionally, in the span of Jan 21st to 25th more than a dozen people died due to gunshot wounds. This showcases how harrowingly the Venezuela government killed and detained regular citizens.
This led to an infuriated Amnesty issuing a plea to the U.N. Human Rights Council to take serious action against the Venezuela government. Amnesty confirmed that Maduro was using dictatorial means of instilling fear through the power to thwart people. In fact, Maduro’s government that claims to be a protector of impoverished people was unjustly attacking these commoners.
Using the security forces of FAES (National Police’s Special Actions Force) Maduro was targeting the poor.
To counter the remarks made by Amnesty, Maduro stated that these comments were lies of the right-wing opponents who just wish to confuse the people and add fuel to the fire.
However, Amnesty pointed out the deaths of nearly 41 people by the end of January where 6 murders were completely extrajudicial executions carried out by the FAES.
