The Tawakkol Karman’s assignment to Facebook panel for the content decision raises concerns on the possibility of terrorist organizations spreading propaganda worldwide through the popular social network. The Yemeni journalist is the daughter of Abdel Salam Karman, a lawyer and politician, leader of the bloody Muslim Brotherhood’s local party.
She had a protagonist role in the Yemeni protests to support the “Jasmine Revolution,” as she calls the Arab Spring after the Tunisian people overthrew the government of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011. She has been a vocal opponent for the end of President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s government. The woman was arrested several times for fomenting protests in Yemen against the internationally recognized government. She organized sit-ins and demonstrations, financing terrorist groups first through her father’s political party, then through the one she founded using the capitals and support provided by Turkey and Qatar.
The Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni Islamist organization which aims to create an Islamic State ruled by Sharia law, as Daesh and al-Qaeda, but dangerously acting under a political umbrella. Its most famous slogan worldwide being: “Islam is the solution”. As charity is a major propellant to Muslim Brotherhood’s work, following the example of Ansar al-Sharia, also Tawakkol Karman created more than one philanthropic organization with which she supports destabilizing activities in Yemen and the Arab world.
According to Facebook, the Oversight Board members have lived in more than 27 countries, and speak at least 29 languages among them.Facebook led the recruitment of the four Co-Chairs, with the assistance of recruiting specialists after creating a public portal where anyone can put forward the name of a candidate for submission. It’s clear the role of Turkey and Qatar in the Tawakkol Karman’s nomination as they need someone who turns a blind eye on their hateful, harmful, and deceitful narratives on Facebook and Instagram.
“Facebook’s appointment of Tawakkol Karman is problematic. She is an MB affiliate and a sympathizer of a misogynistic, bigoted, fascist cult, also linked to terrorist organizations not limited to and including Al-Nusra, Hams, ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Hamas”. Commented on Twitter Irina Tsukerman, New York-based human rights lawyer & national security analyst. The Facebook “supreme court” will consider difficult decisions on what content to allow or remove from the world’s largest social media platform. The nomination of a person with an influential Islamist ideology to this Facebook’s Board raises serious concerns about the content we will see online.
Nervana Mahmoud, doctor and independent political commentator, columnist at “Al-Hurra” wrote on Twitter:“Facebook appointed hard-core Islamist TawakkolKarmanas a member of its oversight board that arbiter what should or should not be published on its platform. In other words, Mark Zuckerberg has enabled regressive Islamism to dominate our social media”.
From 2018, international counter-terrorism organizations denounced Facebook for helping introduce thousands of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) extremists to one another, via its ‘suggested friends’ feature.Even when terrorist material was identified and the offending posts removed, the user was often allowed to remain on the site.
There have also been numerous examples of pro-Isil accounts being reinstated after the user complained to panel about their suspension. The social media giant, which is already under fire for failing to remove terrorist material from its platform, has now appointed a Qatari pre-paid journalist to serve their bloody propaganda.
The arrival of Tawallok Karman in the content decision panel will allow Facebook to become a place where large IS support networks exist, propaganda is spread, people are radicalized, and new supporters are recruited. The reports from users to the moderators will be useless, as an extremist will evaluate them.
